SCU versus Sac. St.

SCU started off on the right foot with Karlyse slotting a penalty in the 10th minute. But Sac St. came back scoring a controversial try that looked liked it was knocked on in the try zone, nevertheless, the touch judge said it looked good and the conversion was missed. Sac then added a converted try. SCU struggled to find its form for most of the day and did not play to their strengths. Karlyse added a converted try just before half time to bring the score 10-12. The second half saw back and forth scoring. SCU had 4 tries and 3 conversions while Sac St scored 5 tries. The last try by Sac St came in injury time and gave them the 1 point victory.
Final Score SCU 36-37 Sac St

Match versus St. Mary’s

We hosted St. Mary’s last weekend and were able to come away with a 65-5 victory. The forwards created space for the backs to exploit and they took full advantage scoring 11 tries, mostly by moving the ball quickly through the hands out wide. Although we were penalized multiple times at the breakdown, which even resulted in a yellow card, St. Mary’s could not capitalize due to the aggressive and sure tackling defense. Next up is Sacramento St. @ Bellomy Field

Scoring:

  • Kalen -4 tries
  • Mirelle- 3 tries
  • Christina- 2 tries
  • Priscilla- 1 try
  • Xitlalic -1 try
  • Karlyse- 5/11 conversions

A Day of 10s

As we all move into the summer 7s mode, Santa Clara hosted a 10s round robin tournament on May 4th versus Saint Marys College and Santa Rosa Junior College.

Santa Clara came out on top with a 36-0 victory over SRJC as SCU was able to utilize their speed and move the ball into space, attacking the outside.

In the final match of the day, SCU was able to hold on and narrowly defeat SMC 19-14. Penalties hurt SCU and SMC was able to capitalize when SCU was playing short due to a yellow card. But SCU was able to regroup and held firm until they were at full strength.

SCU drops friendly to Stanford

A big thanks to all the family, friends, and alumni that made it out to Stanford on Saturday to cheer us on. Unfortunately, the 12-10 halftime lead we had was not enough as Stanford came out strong in the second half and was able to pull away for a 37-20 victory.
